Prayer Diary

We serve a God that promises not to leave us or forsake us, a God who beckons for us to find our breath matching the slow and steady rhythm of the breath of God. All around us we are held in the Spirit of God that goes before us, trails behind us, and flanks us on either side. We pray in order that we might be awake to this reality and find our life in rhythm with the ways that help to bear new life in the world. There was a prayer that was prayed at the World Methodist Conference this past year. The speaker bowed her head and said, “Just Do It God, Amen.” We serve a God who we can say this to… “you know what we need, you know how to guide us, Just do it God, Amen.”

Our prayer is that as you journey through this prayer diary and connect to our people called Methodist right across the length and breadth of the Cape of Good Hope District, which you will together with other experience the power of prayer. That we recognise that our call in the district is to be responsible in our stewardship of the resources we have. Give us wisdom in our decision making. We hear your call generous God upon us to be disciples, people called to a life long journey of learning and growing in our relationship with you.

For together we are a Transforming Discipleship Movement, Called to be Together with God’s Creation for A Christ-healed Africa for the healing of Nations God calls the Methodist people to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ for Healing and Transformation

O Lord,
Open our eyes that we may see the needs of others; open our ears that we may hear their cries; open our hearts so that they need not be without succour; let us not be afraid to defend the weak because of the anger of the strong, nor afraid to defend the poor because of the anger of the rich. Show us where love and hope and faith are needed, and use us to bring them to those places. And so open our eyes and our ears that we may in these coming days be able to do some work of peace for thee. Amen
- Alan Paton

Transformation Calls

Our Continuing Goals Of Transformation Are: A deepening spirituality, A resolve to be guided by God’s mission, A re-commitment to environmental justice, A rediscovery of the priesthood of all believers, A commitment “to be one so that the world may believe”, A redefinition and authentication of the vocation of the clergy in the church, A re-emphasis of servant-leadership and discernment as our model for ministry.
